Flight of Shadows: A Novel by Sigmund Brouwer I liked this book very much but I wanted to like it so much more. When I first started reading Flight of Shadows I knew it was different. Most books you know (or can guess) where the story is leading, but this was hard to picture in my mind and even harder to figure out where the story was going until it ended and I was left thinking "Okay it all makes sense now, but what about..." I gave this story only three stars for two main reasons. The first being the descriptions and details left much to be desired, both the scenes and the people. To ... Continue Reading...
Dining with Joy
Dining with Joy (A Lowcountry Romance) by Rachel Hauck I'm not sure what it is about series books...I almost always find the last book first! Dining With Joy is book number three from Rachel Hauck in her "Lowcountry Novel" series and it is a delightful read and, as usual, I want to go out and find the first two books. Joy is a down-to-earth gal who is only trying to fulfill a promise to her dying father, but keeping that promise has become tricky. She has, with some help, created a not-so-cozy web of lies. Joy is star of a television cooking show, but one problem: she can't cook! Enter ... Continue Reading...
Pursuit of Justice
Pursuit of Justice (Call of Duty) by DiAnn Mills I do not typically enjoy the all-too-common "power-woman" type books - with a career/power hungry woman as the main character - so it was hard to get into this read at first, but after the first few chapters I was surprised that it turned into such a page turner and a sweet love story. Bella is an FBI special agent in hot pursuit of a murder (or two, or three). When the case leads back to the area where she grew up there are sure to be problems since she isn't willing to face her past just yet. The Spider Rock treasure's latest murders ... Living with Confidence in a Chaotic World
Living with Confidence in a Chaotic World: What on Earth Should We Do Now? by David Jeremiah This isn't usually the kind of book I read but my pastor enjoys reading Dr. David Jeremiah and I thought I would give this book a try. It was hard to read at first, not because of the style or language but because some of the facts Dr. Jeremiah shares as examples are down right scary! Our world is truly chaotic whether we want to admit it or not. The good news is through examples and stories Dr. Jeremiah explains how we can cope, live confidently in this world that isn't our true home. Dr. ... Continue Reading...
The Vigilante’s Bride
The Vigilante's Bride by Yvonne Harris I've always said that you can't really go wrong with a story when the characters start out broken (in someway or another) because we need to read on and know that the characters find healing. Harris does a wonderful job of creating like-able people in unlike-able situations that keep you turning the pages. I read this book in two sittings (a few hours each) because the book was hard to put down, the story hard to leave. Emily and Luke share more than a common enemy, and what a rotten enemy it is! They share a subtle faith that is never really ... Continue Reading...
